Why we love the World Series ⚾

Good morning. The MLB World Series starts this week.

Whether you are a baseball fan or not, there are several reasons to get excited about the World Series. Here are our top three:

  1. The World Series is a celebration of excellence. Teams and players endure a lot each season: injuries, trades, the heat, and more. The World Series gives us a chance to celebrate with the teams and admire their athletic prowess.

  2. The sport promotes generational bonding. The loyalties of our parents and grandparents typically inspire our own. Watching baseball with our family can also teach us to appreciate the love of the game.

  3. Baseball is "the thinking man's sport." Every pitch is full of strategy and excitement. Like life, the real power frequently happens behind the scenes.

The 118th World Series begins on Friday and will see the Houston Astros take on the Philadelphia Phillies. Stay tuned for your 2022 champions.

Enjoy your Wednesday, folks.

How to set your rate for appearances

As an athlete you will be asked, “What’s your rate to come and speak to my team/company?” In this article we provide you with a framework for exactly how to answer this question.

Here are some general numbers/rules of thumb:

  1. Practice, visuals, and being able to deliver the speech within a time window. If you have a speech that is rehearsed, includes slides/visuals and can be delivered in a clean 30 min window, then you're safe to charge anywhere between $2,500 to $4,500 as a start. The more practice you have (even if it's yourself at home practicing), the more you can lean towards the higher side.

  2. It's important to know your buyer. If it's a school, you may want to consider an entirely different rate card just for schools. Or what some will do is they will offer 2 speeches per year pro bono, just travel or virtual.

If you're just starting out it's more important that you get reps, photos of you speaking and video of you speaking. This is far more valuable than an initial fee of $2,000 you may receive.
