A big week for Team CG

Good morning. Big announcements we have.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel like they recently got a second wind for the year? Hold on to your starships; we've had a lot going on at CG Sports Co:

  • Early registration for Alexander Massialas' fencing tour, sponsored by Panda Express, sold out for the 12 & Over session. This is not a Jedi mind trick. People are so interested in this tour that we are pleased to announce that we have added a second 12 & Over session.

  • If you have sensed a disturbance in the force, it is because the Sports PR Summit is just two weeks away. We are not being hyperbolic when we say that the speaker and sponsor line-up for this event is . Tickets are still available, don't wait!

  • Much to learn you still have, young Padawan. That is why we are hard at work at CG Sports to bring more clinic experiences from our Olympic and Professional athletes. Keep an eye on your inbox for clinic information.

  • Haylie McCleney's latest stop for the Halo Tour (Rhode Island) was a success! Thank you to The Backstop Softball for hosting. Next stop: Maryland!

May the force be with you this week.

Mick Dierdorff has been involved with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC) since he was young and first learning to ski. The SSWSC is a non-profit organization serving their local community sports and youth development programming to create champions both on and off the mountain.

Now, as an adult, Dierdorff loves to give back to the SSWSC. "I’ve been in and involved with the club my whole life. Whenever they have questions for me, I always try to be there for them,” he explained to Team USA. “It’s something that I will always be involved with — helping out kids — for the rest of my life.”

Mental Health Matters

Last week, LEAD Sports Company founder, Kara Lynn Joyce, discussed the difficulty in seeking help for mental health. This comes after a handful of NCAA female athletes have taken their lives in the last two months. Our hearts are with the athletes who are struggling today, and with the family and friends of those who have passed.

If there is one thing more important than the perceived view of what your teammates, coaches, bosses, parents, and family thinks of a day off, or the decision to take a break, or even retire, it is your mental health. Any deadline, day behind the desk, or meeting, can wait. Your health cannot wait.

If you or someone you know is in crisis, contact the Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255), or dial 911 in case of emergency.

How Sponsorships Come to Life

Sponsorships. Product deals. Brand partnerships. These all typically initiate from the same place. Want to know what that is?

A marketer working for the brand saw a piece of content about or by the athlete. That piece of content matched what the marketer was looking for for their company.

This is how most deals are initiated. An agent can help get an athlete on a marketer’s radar. But the opportunity is only ever as good as the consistency of content put out by the athlete.

Remember, sponsors are folks who are looking for good marketing and advertising opportunities which they can present to their bosses for approval. In today’s market, 99.9% of advertising is done through the use of creative content.

In summary, marketers are looking for people who are already creating content on the reg.
