Share your accomplishments!

Good morning. Don't be scared to toot your own horn.

Raise your hand if you have ever received a compliment from a boss, coworker, admiring fan, etc. and you sheepishly skirted the compliment.

It's a frustrating truth of our society that we are frequently nervous to acknowledge our accomplishments. We get oddly nervous to say, "Yes, I did do a great job on that last project!" or "Thank you for acknowledging the hard work I put in!" Somewhere in the history of humanity it became the societal norm to downplay our accomplishments, but that sentiment serves no one, ultimately.

And, of course, not all people do this. There are some in the world who unabashedly will tell you their accomplishments and it's empowering when you meet and surround yourself with those people.

A former boss of mine used to remind me that if I don't toot my own horn, who will? And he was right. You cannot count on others to always recount your greatest accomplishments and to sell you as a great employee, friend, partner, etc. I am here to tell you that it is okay to tell others about your accomplishments and to do so with a smile on your face. There is no shame in being proud of your accomplishments!

On this Wednesday, I challenge you to find a friend, family member, or coworker and share a recent accomplishment with them. Share a smile and share your pride in your accomplishments!

The Future is Automated

The future is also female. But for the purpose of today's DYM segment, we're talking automated processes. The key to selling is to create, share, replicate, and repeat. Replicating is where automated processes come into play. When working to build an audience, sell a product, or sell yourself as an expert on a topic, you can automate several ways:

  • Create a toolbox or how-to for your product

  • Design FAQ pages with easy access

  • Set up an online shop for your pop-up store

  • Simple quizzes to identify customer needs/desires

  • Chatbot features on your website with a selection of typical inquiries that direct them to a suggested product, the correct individual in your company, or even a page on your website (hey, FAQ page )

Utilizing online services like Canva, Loom, or Google Suite are easy (and free) to kick it off, but moving on to paid services is one step that may be the game changer. Don't sleep on 'em!

Athletes: Find what works for you. Focus on it like crazy.

One of the cool things about 2022 is that there are more ways than ever for athletes to grow their platform. Investing in and growing your platform is the single best way to attract business opportunities.

Remember. Sponsorship deals are just one way for athletes to make money. In today’s market, sponsorship deals are often dominated by those with large social media followings. While this is not always the case, it’s important to understand the market you are playing in.

Not everyone is going to grow their IG account to 100k followers. It’s really hard. However, there are other ways you can spend your time and still get the attention of sponsors, advertisers, business partners and events.

Here are a few ways we are seeing athletes grow their platform and increase their value in the market:

  1. Write a regular blog.

  2. Embrace the age of the newsletter.

  3. Get a buddy to help you with social media content.

Find what works for you. Focus more of your energy on that space. Don’t give up after the first few tries, these things take time. You will be surprised at the results and stress it takes off of you. Good luck, you can do it!
