History is happening!

Good morning. Cross-country skiing is making history.

This season, the FIS Cross-Country Skiing organization aligned the World Cup skiing distances for both men and women.

This past weekend, 32 women raced in the first ever women's 50 kilometer race in Oslo at the Holmenkollen 50K. CG Sports athlete Rosie Brennan was among the Americans represented on the course.

Historically, the Holmenkollen 50K is one of the most grueling courses on the circuit, challenging athletes with over 6,000+ feet of vertical gain and a total of 6 laps around the course.

Despite any fatigue the athletes may have been feeling, there was a spring race to the finish and a mere 0.5 seconds separated the top three places. Norwegian teammates Ragnhild Haga and Astrid Osyre Slind claimed first and second, while the USA's Jesse Diggins finished third.

Brennan, who has competed in every World Cup race this season, finished 13th overall. Following the race, Brennan stated, "I was excited and honored to be part of this historical moment where women were able to do a 50k, and not just a 50k but a 50k on the hardest course we race. It certainly was challenging but we did it and that was really cool."

Congratulations to all who competed and made history in Oslo!

Last week, the LA28 Organizing Committee joined and supported the YMCA Los Angeles' second annual Girls Empowerment Day. The LA28 committee donated the sportswear for 2,100 middle school girls and hosted a panel for LA28 athlete fellows.

Kara Lynn Joyce, speaking as a member of the panel, noted, "Sharing the power of sport with these young women is such a special opportunity. Sports give us so many long-term benefits we can carry with us for life, from creating community and teaching values to showing up every day and building confidence."

Paige Madden competed this past weekend at the 2023 Edinburgh International swim meet.

Madden posted times of 4:13.17 and 2:00.37 in the 400 and 200 freestyles, finishing second and sixth respectively.
