3 Things Learned at Lead

Good morning. We're a little sleep deprived.

But only because we had a serious case of FOMO at the Lead Sports Summit. You see, this weekend hosted two major events: the Lead Sports Summit in Denver, CO and a gathering of the majority of the CG Sports team (peep the Photo of the Week for proof).

The entire weekend was action-packed, inspiring, and tons of other positive superlatives. We're already anxiously awaiting Lead 2022!

Other big news this week:

  • Mandy Marquardt threw out the first pitch at the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs' game.

  • Maggie Steffens joined the SwimSwam podcast to discuss the Tokyo Games.

  • Elizabeth Beisel's Block Cancer swim has been postponed.

  • Cejih Explains has a new guest writer this week! Scroll down to read the "3 Things I Learned at Lead."

CEJIH EXPLAINS
3 Things I Learned at Lead

I have always believed that the best way to live life is to take as many opportunities that come your way as possible. So, when Cejih asked me to attend the Lead Sport Summit in Denver, CO, I knew that I could not say “no.” Did I know all of the details of my role for the weekend? Not at all. Was I excited regardless? Abso-freakin-lutely!

If you’ve never heard of the Lead Sports Summit, the entire weekend is jam-packed with exciting activities and inspirational speakers focused on elevating and empowering female athletes. And, yes, it is as cool as it sounds.

Here are three takeaways from my weekend at Lead:

  1. You achieve what you believe.

  2. We are women, hear us roar.

  3. It takes a village.

Block Cancer

This was meant to be the week, but inclement weather from Hurricane Larry said otherwise. The tentative date for the swim is now September 22-24. The plan is still as follows: Elizabeth Beisel will complete a 20km charity swim from Pt. Judith to Block Island in her native Rhode Island. The funds raised from this swim will go to support cancer research and clinical trials for Swim Across America.

Donations can still be made online and more information about the event can be found here.

What To Do with a Financial Windfall by Kaitlyn Ranze

You did it! Whether you landed a major freelancing gig, got a bonus at work, or the government is doling out more stimulus checks, you’re going to make this money work for you.

Here is the first of seven smart ways to manage the money from your financial windfall:

1) Put your funds aside temporarily.

Transfer the money into a relatively safe short-term account (high yield savings or money market account) while you determine the next step in managing the money. Why put it aside? Having the funds in a different account than your daily spending serves as a nudge to not use them.

Sitting on the money can clear your head of spending it, and will give you time you need to develop a strategy.

Tune in next week to learn the second of seven tips to manage the money from your financial windfall.
