How to create a successful newsletter

Good morning.

We love a good newsletter. You might be thinking, “Well, duh, Taylor. You write one each week,” and that is part of it. The other (and much more important) reason why we love a good newsletter is that it is the perfect opportunity for athletes, teams, and agencies to communicate with their community.

Jack Dahlgren’s newsletter is a perfect example of this. Here’s how Jack has made his newsletter a beaming success:

  1. He created a schedule. Jack’s newsletter is released monthly. This allows him the freedom to go about his daily life, while also creating a reliable schedule that can be followed. Consistently is an important factor with newsletters because it will help build hype with your audience.

  2. He has balanced work with his personal life. To read Jack’s newsletter each month is to take a peek into Jack’s world. There is information about meets he’s competed in, sponsors he is actively working with, and updates about his puppy or boat. It’s the perfect blend, allowing Jack to share his authentic self with everyone.

  3. Each section is balanced. There is not a single section that is too dense with text or seems out of place. Everything flows in a logical manner and has pictures. Additionally, Jack includes a “looking ahead” section to clue readers in to some future content.

If you’re not receiving Jack’s newsletter, jump over to his website to sign up and read the latest edition.

If you’ve always wanted to start a newsletter, but aren’t quite sure where to start, we encourage you to reach out. We would love to help you!

Enjoy your week!

— Taylor

Owen Cravens

It’s official - Owen Cravens personal brand and website are live!

Owen explained in his newsletter, “My logo represents a combination of strength, surrounded by endurance, with the centered C alluding to staying centered, while everything else is going on around it, and the red and blue hues symbolize the United States.

Creating a brand for myself and my racing is my first step toward legitimizing the whys and the hows of paratriathlon and translating them into a grassroots business, on which I can build and later apply my university studies. Branding is a critical component to launching a business, especially in today’s world where so much relies on the visualization and representation in the social media marketplace.”

Abbas Karimi

Abbas and Visit Lauderdale were both featured in the June edition of South Florida Business & Wealth magazine. The feature details both Abbas’s story and his relationship with the city of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Kieran Smith

Kieran was interviewed for as part ofTMC Health’s “Road to the Olympics” special, discussing how his approach to training has shifted as he prepares for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“As far as training goes, it’s pretty much the same. I just think I have a much more professional approach to it. I’ve been really prioritizing sleep, diet, taking care of myself outside of the pool,” shared Kieran.

Asking for Remarket Material

Events, whether they are swim clinics, speaker visits, or special appearances, are fertile grounds for networking, learning, and lead generation. However, the value of an event extends far beyond its conclusion. One crucial yet often overlooked step post-event is requesting remarketing materials. Below, you will find a simple, concise, and effective way to ask organizations for content that you can then repurpose into remarket material to support your company's future growth:

Hi (primary organization contact),

We are so excited about your upcoming clinic on (date) with (name of athlete)!

At the event, please take some photos, videos, and collect testimonials and share them with us. Anything is greatly appreciated! You can capture photos and videos with a professional or use your phone.

Here is a suggested list, of course, you can capture more than what is listed:

  • Photo(s): Group - Group shot with athlete

  • Photo(s): In Action - Athlete speaking at Event

  • Photo(s): Small Group - Athlete with up to 3 participants

  • Photo(s): Additional (optional) - Any additional photos, e.g. with VIPs, additional action or group shots, etc.

  • Video(s): Vertical - Any in-action video, phone in vertical (portrait) orientation

  • Video(s): Horizontal (optional) - Any in-action video, phone in horizontal (landscape) orientation

  • Testimonial - Quote from participant/parent/host about their experience with with athlete, or what they noticed the participants feeling/experiencing. Why you would do it again and what you might do next time

  • Testimonials - additional

Before the event, I will send a heads-up so you can keep this in mind as you go through the day of the event.

Thank you! Please don't hesitate to reach out if any questions come up.

REMINDER

Requesting remarketing materials after an event is not just a follow-up task; it’s a strategic move that extends the life and impact of your event. By doing so, you enhance your marketing efforts, nurture valuable relationships, and build a repository of knowledge that fuels continuous growth and improvement. Don’t let the momentum of a successful event fade—harness it through effective remarketing!
