Why we love sports movies 🎬
Good morning. This is an ode to sports movies.
There is a key element that all great sports movies must possess: heart. To have heart is to look failure, disappointment, and adversity in the eye and keep going. To have heart is to acknowledge the work of those who helped you. And, of course, to have heart is to dream boldly and passionately.
Heart is what "Hustle," the newest sports movie on the block, has brought to the table. This movie is more than the heart of an athlete, "Hustle" highlights the support of a dedicated fan base, the passion of true basketball fans, and pure grit. What is extra special about this movie is the integration of 25 NBA stars (past and present) into the cast. While not formerly trained actors, the players perfectly showcase and elevate the heart of basketball.
Director Jeremiah Zagar recently joined NPR's Cheryl W. Thompson to discuss how he found his way to this film and what it meant for him (a Philly native) to bring his hometown's passionate basketball culture to life. It’s worth a read if you have the time.
This week, I encourage you to channel heart into your next workout, your next business project, and your life. (And maybe carve out some time for a sports movie for some extra motivation.)

How One NHL Team is Setting the Bar for the Future of Ticket Sales
Tonight, the Colorado Avalanche and Tampa Bay Lightning face off in Denver, Colorado to compete for the Stanley Cup. With ticket prices nearing $1,000 on Ticketmaster for the highest 300-level seating areas, it's tough to say the game is accessible financially. But would you be more inclined to purchase tickets if you knew the exact view and seat location, floor material...even the cupholder placement and where the nearest vendors are?
While those details may not be as important for a one-off game, it is one way the NHL's Seattle Kraken increased sales to 32,000 season ticket holders. Here's the catch - they didn't even have the arena built yet. It was all generated from a virtual representation of the soon-to-be-built Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, WA. This online upgrade to their system provides a top tier customer experience, building positive brand associations, while saving time and resources that the sales team can then take to growing current ticket holder relationships and solving other customer concerns.
What changes can you make to best allocate your time and resources to better serve both incoming and existing customers?
