CEJIH EXPLAINS
New Opportunity for Young Olympic Athletes

After two weeks of great competition and memorable moments, the Tokyo Olympics are officially over. For many sports, the Olympics is the one time every four years where the spotlight is the brightest. This brings about an urgent opportunity for athletes in those sports to tell their stories and endorse their personal brands in hopes they can financially capitalize off of their success.

Traditionally, this opportunity was not available to younger athletes still competing in college. However, 2021 will be the first time college athletes will be able to capitalize on their Olympic success given the NCAA’s new Name, Image, and Likeness guidelines.

DEMAND YOUR BRAND
Fight the Pressure

So we are in the midst of an exciting time in sports, and between two incredible global events: the Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games. While your brand and you are always "on," you don't have to be on with your online community at all times, through the busy times, or even the lulls.

This week is a simple reminder that it's ok to take breaks. Taking time for your mental health, as we know well from individuals like Michael Phelps, Simone Biles, Raven Saunders, and several other athletes, is key to fostering long-term health and success. This goes for you and those around you.

HOWEVER

Consistency is key. There is a solution. Use a social planner to lay out content that connects to your accounts and posts automatically. Some apps that might work - Later, Plann, Planoly, among many others.

Why I Hired an Accountant by Erin Papworth
Hiring an accountant taught this freelance writer, (who prides herself on building a business with her own two hands) that asking for help can be just as powerful as doing it all by herself. In addition to teaching me important lessons about humility, vulnerability, and asking for help, there are three big reasons this was a smart decision for me and my business.

Reason two: it allowed me to keep more money.

When I first sat down with Eli, he walked me through the many types of deductions I could claim as a contractor. I had no idea, for example, that I could write off a portion of my rent because my home office takes up a certain percentage of my apartment's square footage. He told me that since I pay for my own healthcare, I can deduct my monthly premium payments. When he asked me about office supplies, I mentioned the only thing I relied on was my laptop. And that's when I remembered that I had spent $2,000 on a new laptop when I first launched.

If I had not hired an expert, I would have failed to claim thousands of dollars (about $10,500, to be exact). The $500 I paid him for his services was well worth it, to say the least.

Check back next week for the third of three lessons learned from hiring an accountant!
