Who’s ready for the Paralympics?

Good morning. Less than one week until the start of the Paralympics.
It's been a little over a week since the Tokyo Olympics ended and, frankly, we're ready for the start of the Paralympics. This quadrennial, NBC will be airing a record 1,200 hours of Paralympic coverage, which means that from August 24th - September 5th, the CG Sports team will look like this:

The 2020 Tokyo Olympics may be over, but the time to reflect on them has only begun. Elizabeth Beisel recently joined the SwimSwam podcastto discuss the ins and outs of life as an NBC analyst.

Northwestern University penned a recap of how each of their athletes performed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Jordan Wilimovsky was featured among the list for his performance in the men's open water swimming event.

This past weekend, Coleman Stewart and Jacob Pebley hosted the Back2Back Swim Camp in Houston, TX. The two-day event featured time in the pool, Q&A sessions, and more.

Jay-Z Reads Our Newsletter

Traditionally for a first-time author to get a book published, you need to navigate, negotiate, and write (or co-write) your book only to publish it and have virtually no rights to the end product, the release date, or the revenue it generates. This isn’t unique to just biographies, it’s the case for novels, cook books, fiction, non-fiction etc. The publishing company has near total control

Queue: CG Sports Publishing. Early on in the process of releasing Silver Lining, by Elizabeth Beisel, we learned just how much control Elizabeth would be giving up if she signed with a traditional publishing company. Frankly it was too much for us to feel comfortable with. Furthermore, no publisher could commit to a publishing timeline less than two years. Pardon me? I think not.

In December 2020, Jay-Z announced the launch of a publishing division of ROC Nation. (Clearly, Jay-Z is reading our newsletter.) Similar to CG Sports, the aim of Roc Lit 101 is to amplify voices and tell untold stories.

To date, CG Sports Publishing has published five books sharing the stories/lessons of Tianna Bartoletta, Elizabeth Beisel, McKenzie Coan, Katie Hoff, and Christen Shefchunas.

DEMAND YOUR BRAND
Personal Life Philosophy

unnamed-14.gif

Surprise! Everyone has a personal brand. If you’re struggling to put yours into words, start by defining your personal life philosophy.

Step 1 - How do you define success? Ask yourself, what legacy do I want to leave? This takes some time and thought. Spend 10 minutes this week to get started. (Heads up, it’s a never-ending project).

Step 2 - Pick out some cornerstones that create the foundation you build your life on. These might be key phrases and words that motivate you every day, or concepts that guide your actions and reactions. Whether it’s a quote your grandfather repeatedly shared, or a note from a parent on one of your elementary school lunches, it may have had a lasting impact on your life, and thus, become a cornerstone by which you make decisions.

One more important question: Are these supporting pillars of your brand reflected in your actions, words, interviews, and even social media posts? How do you use them to work towards leaving a legacy? Don’t leave people guessing.

FINANCIAL FITNESS

CG Sports is partnering with Nav.it to bring weekly tips to navigate your finances, increase money mindfulness, and better your financial health.

Why I Hired an Accountant by Erin Papworth
Hiring an accountant taught this freelance writer, (who prides herself on building a business with her own two hands) that asking for help can be just as powerful as doing it all by herself. In addition to teaching me important lessons about humility, vulnerability, and asking for help, there are three big reasons this was a smart decision for me and my business.

Reason three: It taught me how to better manage my money and business.

Even after I hired Eli, I spent a lot of time and multiple phone calls tracking down receipts, forms, and invoices from my first year of business. After filing my taxes, Eli told me that it will make his job and my job easier if I implement a few simple things.

He sent me a digital template for tracking expenses (pro tip: the Nav.It money app has an expense tracker built in), as well as a handy poster outlining what I could deduct. The poster has a permanent place on my bulletin board, and I've handed out at least 10 copies to self-employed friends (along with Eli's business card, ironically). He also suggested I do bookkeeping on a weekly basis.

Initially, I beat myself up for having t hire an account. It highlighted the fact that I couldn't do it all myself, despite what my unflatteringly large ego believed. But oddly enough, my business (and mental health) have become stronger since bringing Eli onboard.
