Barrier breaking relays

Good morning. History is ours for the taking.

This past weekend, many in the swimming community rejoiced at the reintroduction of the Duel in the Pool event. The newly revised Duel in the Pool took the glitz of the previous edition and added glam in the form of expanded events and rosters. The two organizations, USA Swimming and Swimming Australia, made history and broke barriers by incorporating Paralympic and open water races.

One of the coolest events of the meet? A barrier-breaking mixed relay featuring Olympic and Paralympic swimmers alike. If you haven't watched the race yet, you should find time to do so.

Team USA may have taken home the official Duel in the Pool championship title, but both organizations will go down in history for their inclusivity. Congratulations to all involved in this incredible event!

Olympic medalist Kieran Smith recently announced that he will be turning his attention towards his professional swimming career, foregoing his final year of NCAA eligibility.

“I want to focus on the pro schedule. In college, everything is built around that one meet in March, NCAAs. At this point in my career, I want to focus on long course, and I want to swim at international meets. I intend to race at the World Cups. Nothing’s confirmed yet, but that’s the plan" Smith explained on the SwimSwamPodcast.

Cierra Burdick has been traveling with the Team USA 3x3 women's basketball team and the group recently won the Quebec stop of the 2022 series.

Burdick is no stranger to the 3x3 court, joining the series in 2021. There are big plans for the series (outlined here) and Burdick explained to Yahoo! Sports, "I'm in a space where I love 3x3. I truly love and enjoy playing this game. I want to see it grow and develop, and I want to play."
