Cool stats on women’s sports from Cejih

Good morning.

The influence and impact of women athletes and leagues is reaching unprecedented heights in the world of sports. Watching the women's final four and NCAA championship became a cultural event for fans.

In a recent chat with my friends at the company SponsorUnited, I came away with several powerful stats happening in the women's sports market right now:

  • Gatorade leads the commitment to women’s sports with 51 sponsorships.

  • The most active categories in women’s sports globally are Apparel & Accessories, Financial, and Healthcare.

  • Google has the highest branded social media engagement in North America with over 1.36M interactions.

  • Mikaela Shiffrin and Brittany Isenhour are the most endorsed female athletes with 33 brand deals each.

  • The AFLW and RFL Women's Super League are the leagues most involved in jersey patch deals.

What I found very exciting is the data on which categories are most active in women's sports right now. They rank as follows by # of deals across women's sports leagues and teams:

  1. Financial (193 deals)

  2. Food Products (177 deals)

  3. Healthcare (163 deals)

  4. Beverage - Alcohol (138 deals)

  5. Beverage - Non Alcoholic (128 deals)

Finally, the top three rapidly growing sub categories are: Software, Watches & Jewelry, Cosmetics & Skin.

Over the years the CG Sports client roster has been predominantly women athletes, even as high as 75%. It's an exciting time!

Looking forward to a great month of April.

McKenzie Coan has been busy training and preparing for the upcoming Paralympic Trials at the U.S Olympic and Paralympic Training Center. McKenzie shared on social media, "I realized at the beginning of the year that I needed bot ha change of scenery and a change of pace with my training. With that, I decided to move to the OPTC leading up to Trials and, hopefully, Games at the end of the summer."

This upcoming week watch for McKenzie at the Indianapolis stop of the Citi Para Swimming World Series (April 11-13).

Embracing the writing process

There are some days where I wake up and am in the mood to write. I pour myself a cup of coffee, stare contemplatively at the sunrise, and sit down at my desk, words flowing from my fingertips with ease.

Many of us (myself included) like to envision sitting down in front of a computer and writing something eloquent on the first try. Instead, we typically stare at our computer screens for a long time, because writing is not a process that can be done perfectly on the first try.

When we let go of perfection, we are better able to embrace the mess. First drafts are very rarely the draft that makes it into the book and it will take a lot of writing, re-writing, and angsty Taylor Swift songs before you reach the final product.

Next time you feel yourself staring at a blank screen, try the following:

  1. Close the laptop. Step away from all of the distractions that computers contain (email, social media, hilarious gifs of cats) and try planning on paper. Spend time outlining ideas both big and small.

  2. Word vomit. Take one of those ideas and write everything that comes to mind. No erasing. No crossing things out. No wrong answers.

  3. Take a break. Once you have all ideas down, step away and take a break. When you return, you will be able to view your work with a fresh perspective and better streamline content that already exists.

My best advice is this: trust that writing is a process. Your project will not be concluded in one sitting and that's okay. Write, write, and write some more.

Never stop writing or sharing your stories, folks.

Sharkbanz

Used by open water swimmers worldwide to reduce the risk and train safer, Sharkbanz use patented magnetic technology developed by marine biologists to deter predatory shark species.

Co-founder Nathan Garrison first got the idea for Sharkbanz after a close friend was bit by a Bull Shark. Garrison explains, "As someone passionate about spending time in the ocean, I was determined to find a simple, effective, and affordable way to reduce the risk of an unwanted shark encounter. The proven science, research, and technology are the basis for all Sharkbanz products today.”

Sharkbanz products are the embodiment of almost two decades worth of peer-reviewed scientific research, including independent government testing on the use of magnetic technology as an active and effective shark deterrent.

The Sharkbanz Team is based in Santa Barbara, CA and they regularly work with swim and surf events globally as their official safety partner.
