The CG Sports family

Good morning. The CG Sports team is a family.
And like a family, we share in the emotional ups and downs that our athlete's experience.

Last week, our client and recent Tokyo 2021 qualifier, Paralympian Sam Bosco, was in a serious biking accident on a training ride and was admitted to the ICU with head injuries, including a skull fracture and contusion. While she is slowly healing, Sam has a long road to recovery in front of her. A GoFundMe account has been created to support Sam and her family financially as they navigate medical and insurance bills alongside Sam's recovery.

Other big news this week:

  • Melissa Seidemann is taking over the @cgsports instagram account TODAY,

  • Natalie Hinds: the comeback queen, and

  • Nav.it gives permission to indulge your inner shopaholic.

When presenting, bring your own ideas to the table

I recently gave an athlete sponsorship presentation to the head of PR at a major restaurant chain. The purpose of the meeting was for me to present a few ideas on how they could get the most ROI from their sponsorship with our client.

To really make this a 'low' pressure meeting, the head of PR opened it up with this exact line: "We've worked with athlete ambassadors in the past. Some with millions of followers. It's been 'okay'. What can you present to me that is different from what we've already done?"

How's THAT for getting you to think on your feet!

Here are a few tips to incorporate into your next sponsorship presentation:

  1. Prepare a few original ideas.

  2. Smile while you present.

  3. Initiate the follow up and secure the next meeting.

DEMAND YOUR BRAND
New Platforms
Social media, but make it professional. That's where LinkedIn comes in. If you don't have an account, make one. Business or personal, it is a must-have. You might think the platform is for non-athletes or corporate ladder climbers, and you are not wrong. But, it's also for anyone and everyone to not work in the spiritual world. Many of you have heard that being an elite athlete looks incredible on a résumé, but so is doing that while hosting swim clinics, writing a book, getting a degree, or working multiple jobs to support your athletic career in the meantime. These accomplishments can be shared humbly and openly on this platform to help out with future job applications, to show some love to your sponsors, and to build a professional community.

Some helpful statistics and takeaways:

  • LinkedIn engagement is far higher than other social media platforms - drop this statistic in your sponsorship sales pitch!

  • 3 people are hired through LinkedIn every minute and 55 million companies are on LinkedIn. Keep that in mind when job hunting, but also to grow your own small businesses!

  • Lead conversion rates on LI are 3x higher than other major ad platforms. (LinkedIn)

This is exciting news for you, your company, or your sponsor's growth! Need advice on making your LinkedIn stand out? We've got you.
