How We Got Into Publishing
We recently added a new division here at the company - CG Sports Publishing. Last year we went through a pretty grueling process in finding the right publisher for Elizabeth Beisel's memoir, Silver Lining. It was a huge learning experience but it taught our team that we needed to create better opportunities for athletes to get their stores published.
Here are a few reasons why we took the risk to start our own publishing label:
1. More athlete's need to own the rights to their work: In traditional publishing deals the author or athlete is required to give up ownership of their work to the publishing house. Final editing rights, photos, story points and even the book cover - the athlete is not part of the process. We wanted to provide an opportunity for athletes to have full ownership over their book and be part of the publishing process. The athlete is often the best person to promote, market and help create the best piece of work for publishing, so empowering them will get the best results.
2. Capitalize on your market value: The timeline to getting a book published is 2 to 3 YEARS. This does not include the time it takes to write a manuscript. With such a long and unpredictable timeline it makes it very difficult for athletes to release their books when their athletic career and market value are at its peak. We wanted to change this and help more athletes realize their publishing goals while they were still competing or shortly after. We have several new releases that we will be announcing soon ahead of the Tokyo 2021 games.
3. Continue building your brand: An athlete owned book where they control the rights can be one of the most powerful marketing tools for an athlete's brand during their career. It can literally change the course of an athlete's career for future events, speaking engagements and even sponsorship deals. A published book provides a view into an athlete's life, personality and soul that can connect with fans in an extremely personal way. For us, the day when an athlete gets to hold their published book for the first time is always an incredible experience.

Ball Game from the Backseat
With masks and physical distancing showing limited, if any, signs of going away soon, drive-in watch parties have stepped into the sports world. Dodger Stadium is hosting World Series watch parties, requiring fans to stay inside their car with a radio broadcast to listen in, and a 60-foot screen to watch the games for $75 per car. Down in San Diego, CA, a similar experience was presented for an additional $100, complete with concessions and souvenirs, for a price of $175 to watch the Padres play at Petco Park.

TRIVIA TIME
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each week we will be honoring an individual affected by the illness, or an individual or organization committed to raising awareness. This week, we are sharing Living Beyond Breast Cancer, committed to connecting individuals affected by breast cancer, and educating, providing hope, and supporting individuals through all stages of the diagnosis.
Over the last few weeks, our podcast guests have discussed the importance of relationships, and COVID has certainly brought to light the need for social interactions. Being able to talk with someone who has experienced breast cancer, can share their recovery process, coping strategies, and simply empathize can be a huge benefit for breast cancer survivors and fighters.
