Cejih recaps Q3

Good morning from Cejih.

Happy start to October. There are only 81 days until Christmas so you know that Spotify Wrapped is just around the corner. Time to tighten up those playlists everyone (you know who you are).

Q3 at the CG Sports Company came to a close last Friday. Here are a few of the highlights:

  1. In-person events re-entered the chat: August and September saw the return of multiple in-person events. The 2022 LEAD Sports Summit was a big success, taking place in Denver, CO. During August we ran two fencing camps as part of the Massialas Fencing Tour Powered by Panda Express. The response from the market to both of these events was one of gratitude from our customers.

  2. Coaches building personal brands: Helping professional coaches build their personal brands has emerged as a new market segment for us. The alignment between college coaches having powerful stories and CG Sports' expertise in storytelling has been a strong combo in the market. With the emphasis by brands on digital assets, the timing of the CG Sports Brand Camp service positions us well in the market.

  3. Additions to our partner network: For a little over a year our agency has partnered with Sponsor United. Our strength in tech has allowed us to leverage Sponsor United into a high value data driven asset for our business. The insights we are provided by Sponsor United allows us to be highly strategic, focused and identify larger deal opportunities for clients.

Looking ahead, we are excited to secure new partnership opportunities as well as existing partners for 2024. There is good momentum and I'm excited to see what the team can do with it.

How to be a professional speaker and what it takes

Today we take a look under the hood at the professional speaking industry. Below I share three misconceptions people have about the public speaking business.

Let's get into it.

  1. Professional speakers are naturally gifted: FALSE. As with professional sports, being a paid speakers takes years of practice, training and reps. The easier someone makes it look on video, the more training they have behind them.

  2. Speaking gigs are booked through cold calling: Also false. While cold calling and outreach is an important tactic, it is rarely the most effective. 80% of paid speaking gigs come from someone who has seen you speak before.

  3. Agents handle everything: To quote Malcom Gladwell, one of the highest paid speakers in the world, "the break for me in speaking came when I realized it required about 10x more work that I was giving it." Speaking is a very personal business. The market is competitive and the speakers who are consistently producing content and showing their value will get the deals. Speakers and agents need to work as a team if they want to be successful.

Want to take your speaking career to the next level? Practice in front of the camera, review, tweak, repeat. Use every speaking gig as a golden lead generation opportunity. Self-promote and self-market yourself like hell and have a team in place to handle the business stuff.

Shokz

Do me a favor and plug your ears while singing a song. You can still hear it, can't you? That is bone conduction and it's sound that is delivered directly to the inner ear without needing to pass through the eardrum.

Now imagine applying bone conduction to your headphones. That is exactly what Shokz, formerly known as AfterShokz, has done. The lightweight titanium frame increases safety for the ear canal and are so comfortable you'll hardly notice you're wearing them. Bonus: they're also hygienic!
