The adjectives of sport
Good morning. There's something special about a good adjective.
This may seem like an odd topic for a sports newsletter, but, in truth, adjectives are paramount to the description of any sporting event. It is through adjectives that we regale the highs and lows of an event, hoping to re-create the atmosphere for our audience.
Exhilarating. Important. Magnificent.
Those are just three adjectives that come to mind when I think of Sarah Thomas' latest open water swim. This past weekend, Thomas successfully completed a double crossing of the North Channel and notched her fifth completed swim of the Oceans Seven. Swimming from Scotland to Ireland, Thomas was a shy two minutes off the female one-way record of the North Channel so, with a good pace, Thomas turned around and became the first recorded person to complete a double-crossing of the channel.
Thomas battled foggy goggles, strong tides, and a crazy amount of jellyfish. Her final time? 21 hours, 46 minutes, and 38 seconds.
Unbelievable. Impressive. Awe-inspiring.
The next time you recount a sporting event to someone, I encourage you to lean into the adjectives. After all, adjectives are how we define our lives.

One Tip to Stay on Trend
Last week we talked about a repeat offense in Coors Light marketing: selling limited edition "Championship Ice" beer using ice from the final game. There's no shame in a second run at a campaign that was successful the first time.
While you should never copy another brand's marketing campaign, you can (and should) take inspiration from other campaigns to level up your own work and keep up with the times. This goes for product sales campaigns, but also social media marketing. Take TikTok, for example. Of course, there is the original viral TikTok, but it is the personal brands and businesses that find inspiration from and add their own style to the sound, that catapult their video or account to a new level while catering to a target audience. By staying educated on trending topics, marketing tools and social media strategies, you can help build your brand with ease.
