It’s Championship Meet season!
Good morning.
February means one clear thing for many of us in the sports/swimming world: championship meet season! This week, many of us at CG Sports Co. will be half-distracted as we cheer on several of our athletes from across the country.
In Greensboro, NC, the ACC Championships kicked off yesterday and will feature Virginia’s Katie Grimes’s freshman championship debut, while Cal’s Dare Rose will return to represent the Golden Bears as a graduate student. Follow along with all of the ACC action (schedule, live results, and live sessions) by clicking here.
Meanwhile, the SEC Championships are in action (and have been since Monday) in Athens, Georgia. The Tennessee trio of Jordan Crooks, Camille Spink, and McKenzie Siroky are entered in a total of 10 individual events between the three of them. Catch up with all of the action from the SEC Championships online today.
Lastly, the Big Ten Women’s Championships begin TODAY in Columbus, Ohio. Phoebe Bacon is representing the Wisconsin Badgers as a graduate student — scroll down to our Photo of the Week to learn the award (and vote for it) that she’s a semifinalist for! View live results from the Big Ten Women’s Championships online here.
Good luck to all of our athletes and happy Wednesday, folks!

Recently, Cierra Burdick joined Dylan Murray Training for an episode of his podcast to discuss all things basketball. Reflecting on 4 years at CG Sports
I first met Cejih in 2016 when he started the CG Sports Company. So, when he called me in 2021 and asked me to join the team, it was an easy “yes.” Four years later and I am happy to still be writing, developing, and growing our newsletter, as well as being a member of our amazing Publishing and Marketing teams.
Along the way, I have learned a lot of lessons about newsletters, marketing, publishing, and the sports world as a whole. Below are some of my favorite lessons after four years working at CG Sports Co:
Never stop learning. When I first started writing our newsletter, I had read one, maaayybbeee two newsletters. Since then, I have read newsletters in multiple markets in efforts to expand my knowledge base and see what is popular among readers. This has been helpful market research for me as a newsletter writer and also allows me to see how different newsletters are formatted based upon sections, voice, style, and more. I now happily read multiple newsletters each week and many of my mornings are not the same without them, so my “market research” is now a daily habit.
Embrace new opportunities. Like any position, mine has evolved over the years at CG Sports Co. and each new evolution has brought new and exciting opportunities. New opportunities, such as joining the Publishing team, have laid the foundation for new skills that sharpen existing roles (such as writing our company’s newsletter). Don’t get me wrong, new opportunities can be scary and, at times, frustrating, but you will learn a lot.
Be grateful, above all else. My favorite part of working in the sports industry is the culture. Everyone I have encountered and worked with is excited, passionate, and grateful. The love of sports is at the core of what we do and, folks, we get paid to work in sports. THAT’S FREAKING COOL! It hit me the other day that since graduating college I have covered/worked every Olympic/Paralympic Games except for one, and that is a fact that I (a sports nerd) am incredibly grateful for.
My advice after taking time to do some admittedly late night reflecting? When you hit milestones in a job, take the time to reflect on the lessons that you’ve learned. They always hit a little deeper with the big milestones.

Sponsor Spotlight: Dermasport
Dermasport is a high-performance facial skincare system created by a former competitive triathlete, specifically formulated to protect, support and aid the recovery of chlorine and sun-damaged skin. As career swimmers, Nathan Adrian and Elizabeth Beisel understand the effects extensive exposure to the elements like chlorine, salt, sweat, sun and UV can have on our skin. Dermasport went through four years of rigorous testing prior to launch with swimmers of all levels and the results have been compelling!
On a personal level, Nathan and Elizabeth have both been touched by cancer and though not skin cancer, the topic of preventative and protective skincare is very important to them. The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Christopher Schmidt is a board-certified dermatologist and 50+ year swimmer so he knows a thing or two about the challenges swimmers face with the elements. He reformulated the product for optimal results based on the results of the studies and added a facial sunscreen to complete the four-step daily system.
