This week in Cejih Explains we’re going to talk about why it’s newsworthy for Jay-Z to launch a publishing division of ROC Nation.
Traditionally for a first-time author to get a book published, you need to navigate, negotiate, and write (or co-write) your book only to publish it and have virtually no rights to the end product, the release date, or the revenue it generates. This isn’t unique to just biographies, it’s the case for novels, cook books, fiction, non-fiction etc. The publishing company has near total control😱
Queue: CG Sports Publishing. Early on in the process of releasing Silver Lining, by Elizabeth Beisel, we learned just how much control Elizabeth would be giving up if she signed with a traditional publishing company. Frankly it was too much for us to feel comfortable with. Furthermore, no publisher could commit to a publishing timeline less than two years. Pardon me? I think not.
Beisel came to the table with a beautiful co-written book as well as a goal release date and we wanted to make sure we helped her publish exactly what she created in the timeline she set. CG Sports launched CG Sports Publishing this year with the mission of creating an easy yet successful path for athletes (and non athletes) to write and publish their books.

Watch the First Professional Volleyball League in the US
Not only will the league make a debut in Dallas, TX come February 2021, but 22 of 30 games will be aired on CBS Sports and Fox Sports for you to stay in the loop. This is a key partnership for the league, the players, and Athletes Unlimited (which debuted its softball league earlier this year before COVID decided it had other plans for the 44 players, including Olympian Haylie McCleney).
Volleyball is one of the most-watched sports in the Olympic games, so there is some extra excitement in the air. With 44 players in the league, including 7 Olympians, it is a tough playing field. Athletes will compete for their teams, but also for individual points. The unique scoring system allows athletes to tally up performance-based scores, which ultimately provides them with an opportunity to be a team captain and draft their own teams.
