Paris viewership up 79% đŸ˜±

Good morning from Cejih.

I'm back from the Paris 2024 Olympics and oh my god was it amazing. The trip flew by and honestly the days (and particularly the nights) started to blend together. Below are a few of my key takeaways from the trip, as well as what I'm excited about for the future of Olympic and Paralympic sports.

1. Paris brought the Olympics BACK! NBC recently released that Olympics viewership average 34 million viewers in it's first five days of broadcast. Thanks Snoop Dogg! This is a staggering 79% increase in eyeballs, compared to Tokyo 2021. What Paris did particularly well is nail the integration of peak athletic performance with celebrity fans in the audience. I can't remember a sporting event that has had so many celebrities in one place at one time.

2. The Olympics dominated social media: There was no escaping Olympics content on social media during this cycle. And it's still going! What's impressive is that the market is craving any kind of Olympics content right now. This has been huge for athletes who we are seeing increase their audience following by 2-3x in size. That's wild! The market is responding with high engagement around BTS content of the Olympic village, teammate engagement, and fun content showing the personalities of athletes off the field.

3. Athlete sponsors won big. Whether you were an endemic Olympic sponsor or a direct personal sponsor of an athlete, the Olympics media rising tide raised all ships. This was a huge year for companies who participated in the Olympic movement. Brands with Olympic or Paralympic athlete marketing are seeing tremendous engagement in their campaigns, ads, and brand loyalty metrics. Paris and NBC nailed getting the Olympics into the pop culture mainstream. Any company with ties to the Games, especially through athlete sponsorship, benefited from the billions in media dollars invested by NBC.

There's still more to come with Katie Grimes racing the open water 10km and then we turn our attention to the Paralympic Games starting August 28th!

Thank you for supporting our athletes, team, and company. We have definitely been feeling the love!

Cierra Burdick

Despite a tough start to the tournament, the USA women fought back, qualifying for the bronze medal game and holding off Canada for the bronze medal.

After competition, Burdick explained to the media, "A lot of it comes down to just sheer will and determination and having the want and the desire to outwork your opponent. And I think there was a shift in our mentality and our approach, from the first few games to the latter half of the competition and just how hard we were working."

Congrats, Cierra!

Paige Madden

What a race for Paige Madden! Paige hit the gas in the final of the women’s 800 free, hovering around fourth/fifth place for awhile, before pushing ahead to challenge for a spot on the podium.

Paige posted a time of 8:13.00, closing the gap on the tight race happening between Katie Ledecky and Ariarne Titmus.

Congrats, Paige!

Lilly King

The American 400 medley relay team of Regan Smith, Lilly King, Gretchen Walsh, and Torri Huske ended the swimming portion of the Olympics in World Record (and gold medal) fashion! The group blitzed to a time of 3:49.63, a full three seconds ahead of the field.

King, swimming the breaststroke leg, split a 1:04.90, the fastest in the field. Congrats, Lilly!
