A Caution for Student-Athlete NIL Deals

unnamed-7.gif

The first few weeks of college athletes earning money from their name, image, and likeness rights are behind us. From watching all the developments, we have learned a few things, including there is, in fact, a market, and brands are interested in working with college athletes; female college athletes are just as marketable (if not more) than males; and marketing tools such as logos, websites, and merchandise have all been utilized. But perhaps the most important lesson we’ve learned from the first two weeks is the importance of having someone qualified to advise and review anything student-athletes sign.

With NCAA, university, state, and federal regulations still all over the place with NIL rights in college sports, it is important now more than ever for student-athletes to have patience in their approach. Whether it be a lawyer, agent, or anyone else qualified, student-athletes should make sure they have someone they trust to review anything they sign/sign-up for. They should also maintain patience in finding a brand to work with.

DEMAND YOUR BRAND
Taking Advantage of Powerful Moments

Shoutout, Erika Brown! From the moment she prepared to leave for Toyko to stepping down in Japan, she’s shared with her followers an insider look to the once every four (or 5) year event that is the Olympics. This, my friends, is how you grow your brand at a pivotal moment. Of course the Olympic stage is one of the largest in the world, but even your club or NCAA meet, a team practice, and your nutrition on the days leading up to a vacation or big event can hold your follower’s attention. (Hint: Back to school training is coming up! If you feel so inclined, share it!)

If you are not an athlete, or looking to build your following outside of your sport, take every opportunity to find out what it is that you do that captures your audience’s attention. Look at your insights and engagement after each different post and track this info to look back at as you go through the trial process.

CG Sports Swim Clinics

CG Sports is excited to announce the relaunch of our Pro Swim Clinic Program! We are beginning to book our Olympic, national team, and elite level swimmers for fall and winter swim clinics with clubs. Some of our swimmers are coming off of a great Olympic Trials meet and are excited to get back to doing clinics.

Our clinics are 100% private to your swim club and are designed to give teams the opportunity to have a very close engagement with a pro. Teams pay a flat fee and our team handles all of the logistics for you. We try to remain flexible and work within your club’s goals and budget to make the clinic as successful as possible!

If you think this is something your membership would be interested in, the next step would be to reach out to Matt Haage at matthew@cgsportsmanagement for more information.

We hope to work with your club soon!

Best Side Hustles to Make Extra Cash by Nadia Imafidon
If you regularly find yourself out of money before your boss hands over your next paycheck, take heart--you're not the only one. A comprehensive study from CareerBuilder showed that a whopping 78 percent of us live paycheck to paycheck without an emergency fund.

But don't throw your hands up in defeat just yet. What you need is a side hustle. Here are some options:

Drive stuff around.

For the introverts out there who would rather not do anything that involves other people in your space (same), you can deliver for Amazon Flex and earn up to $25 an hour. You'll have to pass that background check--that's standard for all these gigs--and you'll need a vehicle (of course!) and a smartphone, but then you're all set up to deliver packages on your own time.

You can deliver anything from liquor to groceries to takeout meals for Postmates, while DoorDash focuses just on restaurant food.

Do what you do best.

There's no saying you can't tap into your own resources if you don't want to sign up with a company. Walk dogs. Manage social media for professionals or become a virtual assistant through Fiverr.

Check back next week to learn reasons why hiring an accountant is, well, super helpful!
