Know your worth; fight for it 💪
Good morning. Know your worth.
In 1972, Ilia Nastase and Billie Jean King won the men's and women's U.S. Open tennis titles respectively. Nastase took home a $25,000 prize check, while King took home $10,000.
To King that rightfully made zero sense and she declared that she wouldn't compete in 1973 if the prizes weren't equal.
King, who had three Majors titles in 1972, knew her worth and fought for what she believed in. She went on from there to create the Women's Tennis Association and the Women's Sports Foundation, creating a legacy that fought for women's rights on and off the tennis courts.
So to all of the athletes, coaches, agents, and every day humans who read this newsletter: take a note from King's playbook and know your worth. Stand by for the non-negotiable on your contract. Advocated for yourself, your athlete, or your friend when a situation is not right. Stand up for what you believe in and push for positive change.
Enjoy your Wednesday.
