Our 2024 predictions

Good morning. Welcome to 2024!

The start of a new year is always exciting. That simple flip of a calendar unlocks so many new opportunities and events that previously may have felt far away. For instance, we've made it to another Olympic year!  🎉

One rising trend over the years has been to create predictions for the year. To jump on the bandwagon, here are our top predictions for the year and our thoughts:

  • The Olympics will rebound. Time zone gaps created a lower than usual viewership for the last two Olympic Games. However, Paris' location should remedy some time zone access and will create stunning backdrops for many competitions. Additionally, it has now been two years since the last Olympic Games and hype is genuinely starting to rebuild. This flame should continue to grow throughout the spring until the Olympic torch arrives in Marseille on July 26th.

  • Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) sponsorship space will continue to expand. As with anything, the longer something is around, the more likely it is that people will understand it and know how to use it. Add that to an Olympic year where previously unknown athletes may be catching their big break and NIL sponsorship deals are likely to soar. Check out this week's Cejih Explains for more info on NIL Sponsorship Deals and what you need to know!

  • Athletes are going to create unique marketing opportunities. After all, we live in the Age of the Influencer. Any athlete who understands their brand/story has the opportunity to pave their way to unique marketing opportunities. Additionally, athletes with a vision could make waves in the industry.

NIL Sponsorship Deals: What you need to know

Welcome to 2024! This is going to be a massive year in the NIL sponsorship space. We are going to kick off our first Cejih Explains of the year by breaking down what you should know when considering an NIL sponsorship.

NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) sponsorship deals for athletes can vary widely based on the athlete's popularity, sport, and marketability. However, here are some elements that a basic athlete NIL sponsorship deal might include to be considered a good deal:

  1. Compensation:

    • Determine a fair compensation package, whether it's a flat fee, performance-based incentives, or a combination of both. The compensation should reflect the athlete's market value, endorsements, and overall brand appeal.

  2. Term Duration:

    • Clearly outline the duration of the sponsorship deal. This could be a one-time event, a season-long agreement, or a multi-year contract.

  3. Rights and Usage:

    • Specify how the sponsor can use the athlete's name, image, and likeness. This may include social media posts, advertisements, merchandise, and more. Define the limitations to ensure that the athlete's image is used in a manner consistent with their values and brand.

  4. Exclusivity:

    • Decide if the athlete is allowed to have other sponsorship deals that conflict with the sponsor's product or service. Exclusivity clauses may limit the athlete's ability to promote similar products or services during the sponsorship period.

  5. Social Media Commitments:

    • Clearly outline the expectations regarding social media promotion. This may include the frequency of posts, the platforms to be used, and any specific messaging or hashtags to be included.

Before entering into any NIL sponsorship deal, it's advisable for athletes to seek advice and consult with an agent or representative experienced in sports marketing to ensure that their interests are protected!
