Massialas wins gold in Japan 🥇
Good morning. There are 19 days left in 2023.
Alex Massialas won gold in the final of the Tokoname Men's Foil this past weekend in Japan. This marks back-to-back golds for Alex on the World Cup circuit, solidifying his standing at first in the fencing World Rankings.
But Alex didn't get there just by luck; he did the work and repped his failures. When he struggled in his career, he paused, analyzed what he was doing, and made changes. There were no excuses, no crying, and no blaming others. Alex has proved time and time again that learning from each step in your career is important and has proven crucial in catapulting him to a successful career that is far from over.
This idea of repping one's failures is part of the core idea that lives in Coach Jay Hernandez's book Rep Your Work, available Summer 2024 from CG Sports Publishing. The book will feature notable athletes across a wide variety of sports, including Alex, as they recount how they "repped their work" at various points in their career.
Hernandez's book is one of several books that CG Sports Publishing is excited to share with you all in 2024! Stay tuned for the following:
The After Drop by Sarah Thomas
Rep Your Work by Coach Jay Hernandez
Wheelhead by David Kiley
God Took My Arms but He Gave Me This Gift by Abbas Karimi

Champion's Mojo, Episode #239: "US Olympic Coach and Swim Parent Todd DeSorbo's Advice for Swimmers and Parents"
What happens when an Olympic swimming coach dons the hat of a swimming parent? We had an enlightening conversation with Todd DeSorbo, a parent to his own son who swims--we caught Todd at his son's swim meet. Todd also happens to be the Olympic coach for the USA women's swimming team in 2024. We delved into how he strikes a balance between supporting his child in sport and letting his son's coaches do their job. Also what he recommends when a swimmer has a disappointing swim.
From our poolside chat, DeSorbo lays out his belief in the power of supportive swim parents and the critical role they play in fostering their child's talent. He gives us an insider's view into the world of swim parenting with some great advice to young swimmers as well. DeSorbo's words of wisdom are an eye-opener and helpful to both swimmers and parents. Tune in, you don't want to miss this!
