3 Things I Learned at Lead

By Taylor Brien, Newsletter Editor

I have always believed that the best way to live life is to take as many opportunities that come your way as possible. So, when Cejih asked me to attend the Lead Sport Summit in Denver, CO, I knew that I could not say “no.” Did I know all of the details of my role for the weekend? Not at all. Was I excited regardless? Abso-freakin-lutely!

If you’ve never heard of the Lead Sports Summit, the entire weekend is jam-packed with exciting activities and inspirational speakers focused on elevating and empowering female athletes. And, yes, it is as cool as it sounds.

Here are three takeaways from my weekend at Lead:

  1. You achieve what you believe. This belief lived at the core of Christen Shefchunas’ keynote speech on confidence. We can tell ourselves that we will swim fast, ace the test, nail the interview, etc. until we are blue in the face, but none of that matters if you don’t believe it. True confidence is something that must come from within and how that confidence is nurtured is unique to each and every single one of us.

  2. We are women, hear us roar. Ever heard a room of 140 teenage girls roar? It is simultaneously exhilarating and terrifying. As women, our number one priority should always be to lift up those around us. When we do this, the good days are better and the tough days are bearable.

  1. It takes a village. An event like the Lead Summit doesn’t just happen. It takes months upon months of aggressive planning, bold pitches, and coordination. The sheer number of boxes sent by the 15+ sponsors speaks volumes about the number of people who believe in Lead’s mission of elevating and empowering female athletes.

Life is going to call and there will be opportunities on the other side. Be bold. Be brave. Say “yes” as often as you can. Can’t wait for Lead 2022!
